How to Use This Printable
- Fill in the Budgeted column in late January, before anything is booked.
- Cross out any rows you are not doing this year so the total stays honest.
- Log each purchase in the Actual column as it happens.
- Total both columns and keep the sheet for a realistic starting point next year.
Booking and buying early to avoid peak pricing
Flowers, restaurant reservations, and shipped gifts all tend to get more expensive and harder to secure the closer it gets to the 14th, so filling in Budgeted and starting to book in late January avoids both problems.
Agreeing on a number together
A shared conversation about the total budget, rather than each person guessing what the other is planning, tends to prevent one side overspending relative to the other.
Moving a bigger item to its own fund
If the Experience or Trip row is the largest line, giving it its own sinking fund earlier in the year makes that single cost far less noticeable when February arrives.
Ideas for Using This Printable
- Agree on a shared number with your partner ahead of time so neither person overshoots.
- Book restaurants early or shift the date a day or two to avoid peak pricing.
- Move an experience or trip to its own sinking fund if it is the biggest line.

FAQ
- Is this only for couples?
- No. The categories work just as well for gifts for kids, friends, teachers, or a self-care day.
- When should I start planning?
- Late January. Flowers, dinner reservations, and shipped gifts all get more expensive and harder to get the closer you are to the 14th.
- What if we're not doing a big celebration this year?
- Cross out whichever rows don't apply; the sheet works the same whether the total is small or larger.
- Should this include Galentine's or Palentine's celebrations too?
- Those are usually tracked separately since they involve a different group; the Galentine's Party Budget covers that specifically.
- Does the Other row cover things like a babysitter for the evening?
- Yes, add it there or give it its own row if it's a regular part of your Valentine's Day plans.
