How to Use This Printable

  1. Set a Budgeted amount for each category in October or November.
  2. Log spending in the Actual column all through the season, not just on gift days.
  3. Watch the Difference column and move money between categories rather than over the total.
  4. Total both columns at the end to see what the holidays really cost this year.

Why gifts are only part of the real cost

Travel, food, tips, and events often add up to as much as gift spending itself. Tracking all of it on one sheet is what reveals the true seasonal total instead of just the visible gift receipts.

Using last year's totals to set this year's budget

A completed sheet from last December is a far more realistic starting point for this year's Budgeted column than estimating from scratch, since holiday costs tend to repeat in similar proportions.

Keeping gift and personal spending visually separate

A holiday sale is an easy moment for personal wants to blend into gift spending. Keeping the categories on separate rows makes that blending visible before it grows the total unexpectedly.

FAQ

How is this different from a gift budget?
A gift budget covers presents only. This tracks the whole season, including travel, food, decorations, tips, and events.
When should I start using it?
Start in October. Travel booking and early gift buying are often the first holiday costs to land.
Should hosting costs for a holiday gathering go under Events & Parties?
Yes, keep hosting costs there and use Food & Baking for what you're personally cooking or baking, whether or not you're hosting.
What about holiday tips for service providers?
There's a dedicated Tips & Gratuities row for exactly that, since it's easy to forget until the moment it comes up.
Does this replace the Christmas Gift List & Budget?
No, they pair well together: this sheet tracks the whole season's categories, the gift list breaks the Gifts row down further by person.
