How to Use This Printable

  1. Print one sheet at the start of the month.
  2. Log each day's spending as it happens, or once a day before bed.
  3. Total the Amount column at the end of the month.
  4. Compare against your Monthly Budget Planner's totals.

How to use a daily spending log

Use one row per purchase, filled in the same day, with the amount, what it was for, and the category. Total by category at the end of each day or week. A daily log captures the small cash and card spending that monthly statements blur together, which is often where the gap between income and savings hides.

Who a daily log helps most

It is most useful during a spending-awareness phase: the first month of a new budget, recovering from a stretch of overspending, or hunting for an unexplained gap between what you earn and what you keep. Once your habits settle, a Weekly Expense Tracker is usually enough detail.

What to do with the totals

The goal is data, not judgment. After two to four weeks, find the category that surprised you and set a realistic budget for it based on what you actually spent. Feed those numbers into the Weekly Expense Tracker or the Monthly Budget Planner.

FAQ

What if I have multiple purchases in one day?
Use the Item column to list more than one, or use two rows for the same date.
How is this different from the Weekly Expense Tracker?
This sheet covers a full month at once (31 rows); the weekly tracker resets every 7 days and has more room per entry.
Do I need to fill in every single day?
Leave a day blank if you spent nothing. An empty row is useful information too.
Can I total by category at the end of the month?
Yes, add up matching Category rows once the month closes to see where the money actually went.
What's the point of daily over weekly?
A full month on one page makes month-end patterns, like spending more in the final week, easier to spot at a glance.
